Nordic Patent Institute has been operational since 1 January 2008. The Institute was established by the governments of Denmark, Iceland and Norway.
Nordic Patent Institute is an intergovernmental organisation with its own legal autonomy.
The aim of the cooperation is to stimulate innovation and economic growth in the contracting states by providing improved and enhanced patent related services from patent authorities at local level.
Nordic Patent Institute offers the following services:

International Searching Authority and Preliminary Examination Authority under the PCT system for nationals and residents of Denmark, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.

International Type Searches in connection with national patent applications

Supplementary International Searches

Prior art searches for companies and attorneys worldwide.
In performing its tasks, The Nordic Patent Institute draws on the expertise of the national patent offices. The effect of this cooperation will improve quality and efficiency to the benefit of users of the Institute as well as users of the national patent offices.
